Gildin has research interests in the mathematics of reservoir simulation, numerical methods for control, model reduction of large-scale systems, finite element modeling, numerical analysis and optimization with an emphasis in petroleum engineering problems and drilling automation. In particular, he is interested in the mathematics and application of the real-time closed-loop reservoir management paradigm.
